The Chicago White Sox were the American League’s original eight charter franchises. The Chicago was established as in 1900. The club was christened the Chicago White Stockings, after the nickname abandoned by the Cubs. The team’s was to shortened to Sox, on the belief that news papers would eventually chop the name.
