Here is some background info for those into history. A machinist is a person who uses machine tools to make or modify parts, primarily metal parts, a process known as machining. The Union dates back to 1888. 19 machinists meeting in locomotive pit at Atlanta, GA, vote to form a trade union. The Machinists earn 20 to 25 cents an hour for 10-hour day.
