COMMON UNION pays homage to the KC Monarchs. The Monarchs were organized in 1920 by J.L. Wilkinson, the only white owner in Negro League Baseball. It was one of baseball’s greatest teams. They swept the 1942 World Series over the invincible Homestead Grays, who had six consecutive Black National League pennants. In 1924, the Monarchs defeated the Hilldale Giants from Darby, PA in a thrilling 10-game series to capture the first Black World Series. Available now online at
